Who is Dajjal the AntiChrist?

🧿Who is dajjal❓

Dajjaal is a false messiah and is a liar who will lead people astray. He is the messiah of misguidance who will tempt people by means of the signs that he is given, such as bringing down rain, reviving the earth to bring forth vegetation, and other “miracles.”

The root dajala means to mix. The word dajala is used to mean deliberately confusing matters and being vague and ambiguous. The Dajjal is the one who speaks in vagaries, who tells many lies and deceives many people.  The word “Dajjal” became a title given to the lying, one-eyed, false messiah.

🧿Description of Dajjal:

Narrated/Authority of Abdullah bin Umar

that one day the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned in the presence of people about al-Masih al-Dajjal. He said: Verily Allah (hallowed be He and High) is not blind of one eye. Behold, but the Masih al-Dajjal is blind of right eye as if his eye is like a swollen grape, and the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: I was shown in a dream in the night that near the Kaabah there was a man fair-complexioned, fine amongst the white-complexioned men that you ever saw, his locks of hair were falling on his shoulders. He was a man whose hair were neither too curly nor too straight, and water trickled down from his head. He was placing his bands on the shoulders of two persons and amidst them was making a circuit around the Kaabah. I said: Who is he? They replied: Al-Masih son of Mary. And I saw behind him a man with intensely curly hair, blind of right eye. Amongst the persons I have ever seen Ibn Qatan has the greatest resemblance with him. He was making a circuit around the Kaabah by placing both his hands on the shoulders of two persons. I said: Who is he? They said; It is al-Masih al-Dajjal.

Hadith No: 324

From: Sahih Muslim. Chapter 1, Faith (Kitab Al Iman)

So the Dajjāl is one eyed.[1] He will be blind in the right eye which will be like a floating grape,[2] neither protruding nor sunken.[3] The left eye will also be impaired, partially covered with a piece of flesh protruding from the inner part of the eye.[4] One of his eyes will have a greenish tinge, as if a piece of glass.[5]

He will have the word kāfir (kāf fa ra) written on his forehead[6] which only the believers will be able to read,[7] be they literate or illiterate.[8]

He will be stocky and short,[9] fleshy and light skinned,[10] with coarse and curly hair[11] that is platted[12] and resembles branches of trees.[13] He will be relatively young,[14] with a broad upper chest,[15] a hairy body,[16] and a shiny and wide forehead.[17] He will be slightly hunched,[18] pigeon-toed[19] and sterile with no children.[20] Amongst the people who resembled him most was ibn Qa’an, a man from the tribe of Khuzāa who had passed away in the Days of Jāhiliyyah.[21]

🧿Emergence of dajjal:

He will come from the lands of the east,[22]from Khurasān,[23] at a time when the Muslims are split in groups and differing with each other.[24] To be more precise, he will come from a place called Yahūdiyyah in Asbahān,[25] a province of Khurasān, and with him will be seventy thousand Jews.[26]

Faatimah bint Qais (may Allah be pleased with her), the Prophet ﷺ said concerning the Dajjal: “He will (emerge) from the direction of the Syrian sea or from the direction of the Yemen sea… No, rather from the east…” – and he pointed towards the east.

Sahih Muslim:2942

🧿Followers of dajjal

Most of the followers of the Dajjal will be from among the Jews, Persians and Turks, and mixture of other people, mostly Bedouins and women.

🧿The Fitnah of the Dajjal :

The fitnah of the Dajjal will be the greatest fitnah from the time Allah created Adam until the Hour begins. This will be because of the mighty miracles that Allah will create with him, which will dazzle people’s minds and amaze them. It was reported that he will have a paradise and a hell with him, but his paradise will be his hell and his hell will be his paradise. He will have rivers of water and mountains of bread. He will command the sky to send down rain, and it will rain, and he will command the earth to bring forth vegetation and it will do so. The treasures of the Earth will follow him, and he will travel rapidly, like clouds driven by the wind. And he will do other extraordinary feats. All of that was mentioned in the saheeh ahaadeeth.

Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “The Messenger of Allahﷺ said: “The Dajjal will be one-eyed, blind in his left eye and will have thick hair. He will have a paradise and a hell with him, but his paradise will be a hell and his hell will a paradise.”

[Muslim, no. 5222]

The Prophet ﷺ said of the Dajjal: “Part of his fitnah will be that he will say to a Bedouin, Do you think that if I resurrect your father and mother for you that you will testify that I am your lord?’ He will say, ‘Yes.’ So two devils will appear to him in the image of his father and mother, saying, ‘O my son, follow him for he is your lord.’”

[Ibn Maajah, no. 4067]

🧿Protection against the Fitnah of the Dajjal:

Every Prophet warned his ummah against the one-eyed Dajjal, but Muhammad ﷺ was the only Prophet who warned his ummah more about him.Holding on to Islam, having the right faith and learning the Names and Most Beautiful Attributes of Allah which are not shared by anyone else. Seeking refuge with Allah from the fitnah of the Dajjal, especially in salaah.

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: “The Messenger of Allahﷺ said: when any one of you says Tashahhud, let him seek refuge with Allah from four things,

“Allahumma inni a’oodhi bika min ‘adhaab say: jahannam wa min ‘adhaab al-qabri wa min fitnat il-mahyaa wa’l-mamaat wa min sharri fitnat al-maseeh al-dajjal

(O Allah, I seek refuge with You from the torment of Hell, from the torment of the grave, from the trials of life and death, and from the evil of the fitnah of the Dajjal).”

Muslim:924

One of the reasons for memorizing the ayaat is to seek protection from the fitna of Dajjal. His fitna will be the greatest and we need to be prepared to deal with it.

Al-Nawwaas ibn Sam’aan, in which it says: “Whoever among you sees him (the Dajjal), let him recite against him the opening verses of Surat al-Kahf.”

[Muslim:5228]

🧿The Death of the Dajjal :

Abd-Allah ibn ‘Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: “The Messenger of Allah said: “The Dajjal will emerge among my ummah and will stay for forty… Then Allah will send ‘Isa ibn Maryam (as), who looks like Urwah ibn Mas’ood, and he will pursue him and kill him.”

🤲🏻May Allah protect us from the fitna of Dajjal. May Allah bless us to memorize these ayaats and help us to act accordingly.

Ameen
